My grandfather (my mom’s dad) passed away on December 1st. He was an amazing man. Check out the wonderful memorial site that Wheaton College, where he was the president from 1965-1982, has put together. His biography is fascinating.
Papa, thank you for your wisdom and quiet calming manner, your strength and leadership, the influence of your strong faith, and also thank you for raising my mom. We all love you and will miss you!

My Grandfather just passed away last Friday (the 27th). I know that dying is part of life, but it is so tough when it is someone you love. I am sure you have some wonderful memories of your Papa. Keep those safe in your heart, forever.
Regarding your son's studdering...Reid began studdering (in the beginning of words) and I believe it lasted about 1-2 months. Literally, right after I wrote the post on my blog, I called our ped, 2 days latter, he completely STOPPED. SO bizarre. She said that when they are studdering at the beginning of the sentance, it is actually called "stammering" and it is a nature part of the speech process in a lot of toddlers, especially boys. She told us to ignore it, but make sure that you are making eye contact when your child is speaking with you. She told us that it usually don't last more than 6 months...and like I said, just a couple of days afterward, it completely went away.
I was worried because his identical twin was not studdering, but would "fake" studder and copy his brother. It was hilarious, but so, so weird.
If it lasts too long, you can always get some reassurance from your ped, but be comforted by the fact that it is normal and they brains are just firing a lot faster than their little mouths can manage.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts during this time. Our family gathered in Wheaton and had such a wonderful time of remembrance for him, and I was humbled and proud by listening to so many stories about him, and by looking around at the people and organizations that he helped inspire and create throughout his amazing life.
One of the speakers at his memorial service mentioned a little triplet that will stay with me for a long time that pertains to the way my grandfather lived:
"I dreamed that life was joy.
I awoke and realized life was duty.
I did my duty and experienced Joy."
We will miss him so much but are also just so thankful for his release from the cruel mind-stealing power of dementia that he suffered these past few years.
